CENTERING

As individuals, when we are being centered, we feel seen, heard, acknowledged, and validated. In social movements, when we practice centering for solidarity, we listen, validate, and follow the lead of those closest to the experiences of inequity and injustice in developing campaign demands and systemic solutions.

This approach respects the dignity and humanity of marginalized communities and recognizes the profound wisdom that arises from their lived experiences and histories. The practice of centering also puts forth the demands and solutions that are grounded in the realities faced by communities who are most impacted, making them more effective, relevant, and sustainable.
