2025 State of Solidarity Series

State of Solidarity: Movement Lessons from the First 100 Days

Wednesday, April 30, 3-5pm EDT / 12-2pm PDT

What does solidarity look like in times of political upheaval and uncertainty? How have movements adapted to the challenges of the first 100 days of the Trump administration? Join us as we reflect on how movements have responded to the challenges of the past few months and how solidarity has been a vital tool in organizing, resistance, and healing. We’ll discuss what worked, where we’ve stumbled, and how we can continue to fortify our movements to create lasting change and how these lessons can strengthen our collective power with the challenges and opportunities ahead.

This State of Solidarity will feature a panel discussion, moderated by BMP’s Adaku Utah with Oluchi Omega, Black LGBTQIA+ Migrant Project; Taja Lindley, All-Options; Ramla Sahid, Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans; and Nancy Nguyen, VietLead; followed by collective dialogue.

We will explore the relevance, responsibilities, challenges and opportunities surrounding solidarity in movements in 2025 and beyond. The session will weave together reflection, co-learning, and resource sharing as we examine what solidarity demands of us in this moment.

Solidarity Through Conflict: Navigating Internal Movement Tensions

Tuesday, September 30, 3-4:30pm EDT / 12-1:30pm PDT

When we are under attack from outside forces, this can sometimes manifest in internal divisions within and across movement ecosystems. What can conflict teach us about building deeper solidarity? What wisdom have our movements gained about moving through conflict together? How do we build organizations strong enough to hold connection and disagreement?  In this critical conversation, we'll explore the challenging terrain of movement conflict - from strategic disagreements to interpersonal conflicts, from political differences to generational divides.

Through real examples, practical tools, and lived experiences, we'll examine how movements have transformed moments of conflict into foundations for deeper trust, sharper analysis, and transformative solidarity.

  • Solidarity Beyond the Elections

Democracy is not just about the elections. It is a set of institutions, ideas, and practices that center the power of the people in shaping our lives. On the other side of the elections, how do we ensure that the principles of solidarity and democracy are practiced in everyday actions and decisions?

  • Protecting Cross-Racial Solidarity

Threats to democracy continue to shape attacks on us and each other. In the face of polarizing political leadership, rising ethnocentrism, voter suppression, media propaganda and increasing legal attacks on racial equity, cross-racial solidarity can feel more fragile than ever.

  • Building Solidarity in an Era of Silos

Fractures are widening. In an age of increasing polarization and division, how can we build bridges across lines of difference and strengthen solidarity? What strategies do we need to sustain connections across the growing chasms of ideology, experience, power, and privilege?
